FAQs

What is a "systems counselor"?

A system is a collection of things which have relationships among them, that are open to, and interact with, their environment. It is necessary for a healthy system to have functional parts that communicate efficiently.

A systems counselor works with individuals, couples, and families by working with all the influences on the system(s) that person or persons are a part of.

What do you mean by "holistic"?

I define holistic as truly taking into consideration all the relationships and influences on a person or family. I do this because I believe we are who we are because of our interactions with our friends, family, colleagues, home interior and exterior, spirituality, belief systems, nutrition, physical health, contact with air, noise, water, and chemical pollution, and more.

I also believe that we co-create our relationships and environment from what is going on inside us. In short, that our exterior mirrors our interior and vice versa. By working on one influence, eventually things everywhere will shift and change. By working on many influences together, a greater, more long-lasting change can occur.

Do you take insurance?

I do not take insurance. I keep my rates affordable and am also open to sliding scale fees.

Do you work with individuals or families?

I work with individuals and families, as well as friends, family of origin, and anyone that a client feels is important in their change/healing process. During the decluttering work, I work primarily with individuals.

What do you mean by "environment"?

I believe that our external world mirrors our internal world and that our home and work environments hold energies subconsciously created by us. These energies can be influenced by clutter, furniture placement, and what we see outside our windows and on our way home or to work. When you begin to make changes in your life and relationships, your environment slowly changes with you or can work to make change difficult. By working on your environment at the same time as making other changes in your life, the changes tend to take place more quickly and be long-lasting. And, working on your environment brings changes within you.

What are your qualifications?

I have a Masters of Arts degree in Systems Counseling from The Leadership Institute of Seattle which is the Applied Behavioral Science arm of Bastyr University.

I have a solid scientific background with a Bachelors of Science in Chemistry and I also studied advanced Plant Genetics. I taught and worked in the field for 5 years.

I have studied and used natural health modalities for over 10 years, including nutrition, Feng Shui, acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, qi healing, naturopathy, massage, Rosen method, network chiropractic, paramukta yoga, meditation and ayurvedic medicine.

I have worked with a wide variety of individuals and families: healthy people who are looking to improve their lives and ready for the next step, terminally ill, severely developmentally disabled adults with chronic mental illness, those suffering from depression, anxiety, panic attacks, attention deficit disorders, sexual abuse, post-traumatic stress disorder, eating disorders, suicidal ideation, anger, hoarding disorder, lack of motivation or direction, financial problems, grief and loss, and marital difficulties.

Why do you go to people's homes instead of having an office?

My experience of working with clients in their homes has given me a deeper appreciation for their lives and their struggles and provides a unique perspective which helps me to really see and feel what the client experiences every day.

It is also difficult in these fast-paced, full lives we lead to coordinate appointments, childcare, work, meals, etc. By having the counseling and coaching sessions in your home, you have more time for living your life and it saves you from worrying about getting to appointments.
